Important considerations before applying

Name consistency: Ensure your first name and surname match the University records.

Education dates: Your start and end dates of education should match the University records.

Recent photograph: Make sure to upload a recent photo.

Placement option: Do not select the placement option when applying for your student Oyster card.

 

Eligibility

You can apply for an 18+ Student Oyster photocard if:

  •         you are 18 or over.
  •     you live in a London borough during term time.
  •         you are enrolled at a school, college, or university registered on the Transport for London (TfL) scheme or you are on a mandatory work placement in London.

 

Benefits

Travel savings: Save 30% on adult-rate Travelcards and Bus and Tram Pass season tickets.

Railcard discounts: If you have a 16-25 Railcard or 26-30 Railcard, you will save a third on pay-as-you-go off-peak fares and daily caps by adding the Railcard discount to your 18+ photocard. This applies to travel on the Tube, London Overground, the Elizabeth line, and most National Rail services in London.

  •        You can also get a Railcard for from the nearest train station and get it stamped and signed at the York St John London campus help desk, or
  •     You can use a third-party application like Trainline or Trainpal.

 

Important considerations

Travel restrictions: A minimum fare of ᆠ applies to tickets purchased for travel between 4:30am and 9:59am, Monday to Friday, except during July and August.

Usage: You can use your Railcard anytime on weekends, public holidays, and during the week, with some restrictions during peak hours.

 

How to use

Adding Railcard to Oyster photocard: You can add your Railcard discount to your 18+ student Oyster photocard to maximize savings on travel.

Travel off-peak: Traveling off-peak using pay-as-you-go can be cheaper. Start your journey before 6:30am, between 9:30am and 3:59pm, or after 7:00pm on weekdays. You can travel anytime on weekends and bank holidays.
