We aim to support accessibility across the York St John University campus wherever possible. However, some buildings have restrictions due to their historic and listed status, which can limit the physical changes that can be made.

Accessing your teaching spaces

Once we are aware of your access needs, these will be recorded on your LAP. The timetabling team will work to ensure you are scheduled into accessible teaching spaces.
Occasionally, a timetabled space may be inaccessible to you. If this happens, please contact the Disability Support and Inclusion team as soon as possible so we can work with the relevant teams to resolve the issue or move your teaching to an alternative space where possible.

At times, lifts may be out of service due to maintenance or repairs. The Estates team maintains a lift status checker on their website, which provides up-to-date information on lift availability. This site will be developed over time to include information about alternative accessible routes to teaching spaces where available.

If you are unable to access your teaching space, please report this to the Disability Support and Inclusion team as a matter of urgency.

Reporting campus accessibility issues

If you become aware of an issue that is affecting your access to campus, please report this to the Disability Support and Inclusion team as soon as possible. We will work with the Estates team to address the issue as a priority.  This could include things such as a door opener which isn't functioning, a teaching room door which is sticking, or seating or desks which require replacement or repair.

Specific seating requirements

If specific seating or desk items have been arranged for your teaching spaces, these will be provided in your timetabled rooms. If your timetabled rooms change, please contact the Disability Support and Inclusion team or Estates Operations to arrange for the items to be moved by emailing estates.admin@yorksj.ac.uk or by raising a case on the Student Hub.
