Television Licence Requirements in York St John Accommodation
York St John university does not provide television/TV Licences for our accommodation. You will need a TV Licence if you intend to watch or record live television on any channel or service. It does not matter what device you are using to watch or record live television, you are still required to have a TV Licence, even if you are using a PC, laptop or mobile device to do so. You also need a TV Licence to use the BBC iPlayer service.
All bedrooms in our accommodation are on individual tenancies so a communal TV licence (not provided in our accommodation) would not cover you for watching or recording live television or using BBC iPlayer in your own room. If your out of term address such as a parent/guardian home has a TV Licence then you can watch an record live TV if it is on a device that is powered by its own internal battery and is not connected to an aerial or plugged into the mains.
You do not need a Television Licence to have a television in your room or to use streaming services such as Netflix and Disney+, on demand TV through services such as All 4 and My5 (except BBC iPlayer) and videos on websites/apps such as YouTube.
Please check with the partner provider to check whether they provide TV Licences or if you need to purchase one yourself.
