You will be asked to create your York St John IT account as part of your enrolment to the university. Once you have completed your enrolment your IT account will allow you to access York St John student IT systems.
You should enroll as soon as possible and can start the process before you arrive (International students will need to complete enrolment in person and on campus). For further information on enrolment visit our Welcome guide.
Your IT account and passwords
Your IT account will consist of a username and a password. Your username will be in the form firstname.lastname.
Your university email address uses your username and adds @yorksj.ac.uk to it. Therefore, it will be in the format: firstname.lastname@yorksj.ac.uk
During enrolment, you will set your own password. You should make sure that your password meets the following requirements or it will be rejected:
- At least eight characters long
- With at least one uppercase letter
- At least one lowercase letter
- At least one numerical (0-9) character
- You must not use your username or real name as part of the password
- You cannot use a password you have had before
- Do not use special characters such as @, or* etc as these can cause problems
If you need help because you have forgotten your password or your username and password are not working, go to the help article on how to reset your password.
When you set up your York St John IT account you will also be asked to set up multi-factor authentication. MFA is an additional layer of security and there is a help article on how to set up multi-factor authentication.
Using your IT account to access university digital systems
You can access most of the main York St John digital systems using your university email address and IT account password. This will give you access to:
- Office 365 (including your university email)
- Moodle (your virtual learning environment)
- Eduroam Wi-Fi (the on campus Wi-Fi system)
- Student Hub Cases (for raising cases and checking on progress of your queries)
- Student Hub Appointments (to book appointments with support teams)
- Library electronic books and e-journals
- Library subject resources and databases
- Handshake (for accessing information and support from Careers)
- MyYSJ app
Some systems require you to use your username (not your email address) and your password. This includes:
- Timetable system (for access to your academic timetable)
- e:Vision (for access to your student record)
- Multifunction devices on campus (for printing, photocopying and scanning)
- PCs on campus
There will be some systems that use other credentials to identify you. These include:
- Your library account (which uses your student number and a PIN)
- Your university accommodation account (which uses your 9 digit York St John ID number and a password you set on creation of your Accommodation Hub account)
For eligible Library users, your Library Account allows you to access details of what you have borrowed, to reserve print items, to request interlibrary loans and request postal loans.
