Toilets
There is a mixture of toilet facilities at York St John:
- All Accessible Toilets and most self-contained single toilet cubicles containing sinks and hand-dryers are gender-neutral.
- All multi-cubicle toilet spaces (where the cubicle does not contain a sink and a hand dryer) are gender-specific.
- All Accessible Toilets, female-gendered toilets, and non-gendered self-contained toilets have sanitary waste bins provided.
- Sanitary waste bins are also provided in at least one cubicle in the male-gendered toilets. Sanitary waste bins are provided for the disposal of pads and tampons.
- Clinical waste bins are provided for the disposal of incontinence waste and nappies.
The following toilets have RADAR Locks on and you will need a RADAR Key to access them:

Holgate (Hub Side) Ground Floor Accessible Toilet
RADAR Keys can be borrowed from the Student Hub Desk. Keys can be borrowed for the duration of your course and do not need to be returned after every use or at the end of every day. RADAR Keys (sometimes called NKS Keys) give access to over 10,000 locked toilets in the UK; these toilets can be found in train stations, museums and art galleries, and public buildings, as well as supermarkets and airports. The Great British Public Toilet Map allows you to find RADAR Key toilet locations near you.
Please do not forget to knock on the door before using your RADAR Key – depending on the type of internal lock, the RADAR Key may sometimes override it.

Creative Centre:
On each floor there is an Accessible Toilet and 4 self-contained single toilet cubicles.
Chapel:
There is an Accessible Toilet on the Ground Floor, to the left of the entrance.
Communities Centre:
Ground Floor: there are two Accessible Toilets on the Ground Floor.
First Floor: there is one self-contained toilet on the First Floor.
Second Floor: there is one self-contained toilet on the second floor.
De Grey:
Ground Floor: there is one Accessible Toilet (RADAR Locked) on the ground floor of De Grey, and one set of female toilets and one set of male toilets.
First Floor: there are two Accessible Toilets on the first floor of De Grey, and two sets of female toilets and two sets of male toilets.
Second Floor: there is one Accessible Toilet on the first floor of De Grey, and one set of female toilets and one set of male toilets.
Third floor: there is one Accessible Toilet on the third floor of De Grey, and one set of female toilets and one set of male toilets.
Design Centre:
Ground Floor: there will be one Accessible Toilet on the ground floor, and one set of female toilets and one set of male toilets.
Foss:
Ground Floor: there is an Accessible Toilet on the Ground Floor, through the double door to the right as you enter Foss.
First Floor: there is an Accessible Toilet and male and female toilets on the First Floor
Second Floor: there is an Accessible Toilet and male and female toilets on the Second Floor.
Fountains:
On each floor of Fountains there is one Accessible Toilet, one set of female toilets and one set of male toilets. The Accessible Toilet on the Ground Floor is RADAR Locked.
Gateway House:
Ground Floor: there is an Accessible Toilet on the ground floor of Gateway House.
First Floor: there is a self-contained toilet on the first floor.
Second Floor: there is a self-contained toilet on the second floor.
Holgate:
Ground Floor (Dining Hall): there are self-contained toilets and one Accessible Toilet by the Dining Hall.
Ground Floor (Hub): there are two Accessible Toilets (one RADAR locked), one set of male toilets and one set of female toilets, and one squatting toilet.
First Floor: there is one Accessible Toilet, one set of male toilets and one set of female toilets on the First Floor.
Second Floor: there is one Accessible Toilet and one self-contained toilet on the second floor of Holgate.
Maclagan:
Ground Floor: there is one Accessible Toilet and three self-contained toilets on the Ground floor. Second Floor: there is one Accessible Toilet on the second floor.
McGregor Wing:
Ground Floor: there is one Accessible Toilet on the Ground Floor.
Second Floor: there is one self-contained toilet on the second floor.
Ripon Wing:
Ground Floor: there is one Accessible Toilet on the ground floor.
First Floor: there is one male toilet on the first floor.
Second Floor: there is one female toilet on the second floor.
Phoenix:
Ground Floor: there is one Accessible Toilet and one set of female toilets on the Ground Floor.
First Floor: there is one set of male toilets on the First Floor.
Quad North:
First Floor: there is one Accessible Toilet and three self-contained toilets on the First Floor.
Second Floor: there is one Accessible Toilet and three self-contained toilets on the Second Floor.
Quad South:
Ground Floor: there are three Accessible Toilets and one set of male toilets and one set of female toilets on the Ground Floor.
Second Floor: there is a male toilet and a female toilet on the Second Floor.
Quad West:
Second Floor: there is one Accessible Toilet, one male toilet and one female toilet on the Second Floor.
Students’ Union:
Ground Floor: there is one Accessible Toilet (RADAR Locked), six female toilets, two male toilets, one toilet space with two urinals, and one ambulant disabled toilet on the Ground Floor.
First Floor: there is one Accessible Toilet on the First Floor.
Temple Wing:
Ground Floor: there is one Accessible Toilet, one set of female toilets, one set of male toilets and one self-contained toilet on the Ground Floor.
First Floor: there is one Accessible Toilet on the First Floor of Temple Wing.
Second Floor: there is one self-contained toilet on the Second Floor.
Wilmott:
First Floor: there is one self-contained toilet on the First Floor.
Haxby Road
Haxby Road:
Ground Floor: there is one Accessible Toilet, one set of female toilets and one set of male toilets on the Ground Floor.
First Floor: there is one Accessible Toilet, one set of female toilets and one set of male toilets on the First Floor.

Third Floor: there are two Accessible Toilets and one set of male toilets and one set of female toilets on the Third Floor.
Sixth Floor: there are two Accessible Toilets, one Ambulant Disabled Toilet, three self-contained toilets, and one set of male toilets and one set of female toilets on the Sixth Floor.
