Reading for your studies requires:

  • finding and selecting resources to read
  • reading to achieve a purpose or goal, and
  • making notes of information you will use.

Take charge of your own reading development. As you progress through your studies, you should:

  • develop your reading skills
  • follow your lecturers reading recommendations, and
  • develop your note taking and note making skills.

As a University student, you are expected to develop appropriate reading skills so you can find, understand and critically engage with the writings of other people.

You will need to:

  • find and select readings
  • decide why you are reading and what questions you are trying to answer
  • plan your approach to reading, and
  • make useful notes on your reading.

Reading skills are fundamental for success on your degree course and are vital for your employability.

We have 2 types of support available:

  • Reading self-development resources, and
  • 1 to 1 or small group support.
