Do my modules count towards my degree?
Unless you are a language student, your time abroad is credit-bearing. This means the modules you take abroad count towards your degree. After you return from your year or semester abroad, your transcript from your host university is sent to the Registry team and the grades you received at your host university are converted into York St John University credits. Therefore, it is very important that you choose modules that are related to your degree when studying abroad.
You will have help choosing your modules from a dedicated Study Abroad academic adviser. This is a member of academic staff from your School. Before you let your host university know which modules you would like to select, you need to complete an Overseas Study Plan (OSP). This is an internal document that is used to record your module choices abroad so they can be converted to credits when you return to York St John University.
After you have filled in the OSP, you send it to your academic adviser for approval and once you have confirmation of this then you may send your module choices to your host university.
When you are abroad, if you change any of your modules, your OSP needs to be updated to reflect this.
