Accommodation at York St John

If you study abroad for 1 semester, you are guaranteed University accommodation for the semester you are in York. This is based on York St John University dates.

You will not receive the outcome of your Study Abroad application until March. This means that you will not be able to organise your accommodation until then. Students will begin looking for accommodation in November, but we advise that you do not commit to living somewhere if you would like to study abroad. Students do tend to find this is not a problem in the end, but we understand that it can cause some anxiety for students in the first semester.

Accommodation at your host university

Your host university will support you with applying for accommodation in your host location. At many universities, you will stay in university accommodation, but there are some universities where you need to source private accommodation. Usually your host university will help you with this.

There are a number of universities in America and Canada which belong to the Bed for Bed scheme. This means that you pay the accommodation fee to York St John University, but you are guaranteed accommodation at your host university. If your host university does not belong to the Bed for Bed scheme, you will pay your host university (or private provider) for the accommodation. You often need to pay some of this fee before your semester abroad starts, and sometimes you can set up a payment plan with the host university.
