At the point of application to York St John, applications are assessed and given a 'fee status' to determine whether a student will be charged 'Home' or 'International' fees. When a fee status is not immediately obvious from the information on the application form, the Admissions team will perform a fee status assessment, which will usually require the student to complete a questionnaire.

How is fee status determined?

There are a number of factors which determine a student-s fee status for study. Most of these are based on residence and ties to the UK or settlement status. York St John University uses the UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA) guidance to assess a student's fee status. We recommend that you familiarise yourself with the 'England: HE Fee Status' information on UKCISA's website.

If you think you may have an incorrect fee status

Firstly, review the Fee Status Questionnaire web page to determine which status/category you believe you should fall within. You can also view the UKCISA Guidance. You will then need to contact our Admissions team by emailing admissions@yorksj.ac.uk for a re-assessment. As part of this, you will need to complete a fee status questionnaire and provide evidence of your status.

I do not need a student visa, so why am I being charged International fees?

Being eligible to study in the UK does not automatically provide you with a -Home- fee status. Fee status is generally based on residency, so even a British citizen who has been living overseas with no ties to the UK may be charged International fees.

I have a UK student loan but am being charged International fees

If you can provide evidence that you are in receipt of a UK student loan for Home fees, we will update your fee status to match this. Please send evidence to admissions@yorksj.ac.uk and ask for a re-assessment.
