What to do if you cannot return an item borrowed from the library on time

We understand that sometimes unexpected thing happen that might mean you are unable to return items on time. In certain circumstances we may be able to extend the loan slightly or pause or waive fines.

If you cannot return your items on time the best thing to do is to contact us to explain the situation and discuss your options, you can do this in the following ways:

  • Via Telephone 01904 876520
  •  In person (York campus only) by visiting the Library Services Desk in Fountains (Monday to Friday - 8am to 8pm)

Return books by post (York campus students only)

If you are not able to travel to our York campus to return items, you can return them to us by post.

To return items to us using a postal service:

  • You must send items back at least 1 day before their due date
  • Package up your books securely and carefully label the package
  • Address your package to: Library and Learning Services, York St John University, Lord Mayor's Walk, YO31 7EX
  • Remember to keep your proof of postage. You will need this as evidence of your return, including the date the items were posted
