NHS OpenAthens and eLearning for Healthcare
As a student on a Health course with a National Health Service (NHS) placement, you will need to complete mandatory training which the NHS provides through eLearning for Healthcare (e-LfH).
Your login details for e-LfH are different to your York St John University IT account details. This is because it is an NHS system. You will access e-LfH with an NHS OpenAthens account. The most common problems you could have when accessing your mandatory training are:
- your NHS OpenAthens account is not activated
- you have not accessed e-LfH before
- you are logging into e-LfH through an incorrect route or with incorrect details
- you are unsure which training courses you need to complete.
Activating your NHS OpenAthens account
After you have started your course at York St John University, you will receive an activation email from NHS OpenAthens. This will ask you to activate your new account for mandatory training. This link has an expiry date, so you should activate your account when you receive this email. Click the link in the email and follow the instructions.
If you did not receive this email, or your activation link has expired, please email the Academic Liaison Librarians at academicliaisonteam@yorksj.ac.uk.
Registering with e-LfH
- Go to e-LfH
- Choose Register / Login
- Choose -Sign On with OpenAthens-
- Search for York St John University
- Enter your NHS OpenAthens login details
- Ignore the username and password boxes on the left. Just click 'Proceed to next step'
- Fill out the screens to complete your registration
- Follow and complete the registration screens
Logging into e-LfH
- Go to e-LfH
- Choose -Sign On with OpenAthens-
- Search for York St John University
- Enter your NHS OpenAthens login details
Which mandatory training courses do I need to do?
This depends on your degree course and placement. The lecturers responsible for your placements will have provided you with information about the mandatory training you need to complete. Please check Mandatory Training for Health Students- on Moodle to find this information.
