How to borrow Library devices
The Library provides self-service laptop loans at York and London campuses. York students can also borrow iPads and charging cables.
Borrowing laptops
You can borrow laptops from the self-service laptop lockers in Fountains Learning Centre and the London campus sixth floor.
Laptop loan periods are:
- 3 days in York
- 7 days in London
You will need your student ID to borrow a laptop. All lockers show simple on-screen instructions for borrowing and returning laptops.
Each laptop comes with its own charger. If there is no charger, please tell a member of staff or email library@yorksj.ac.uk.
You can borrow one laptop at a time. It is not possible to renew or reserve laptops.
At the end of the loan, you must return the laptop to the laptop locker where you borrowed it. If you do not return your laptop by the due date, you will be charged a £10.00 fine and your library account will be blocked from further borrowing.
When returning a laptop, make sure you plug the internal charging cable into the laptop-s power socket. Otherwise, the locker will not register the return and you could be fined.
You should not borrow a laptop on behalf of another student, or swap laptops with another student. Each laptop has a unique barcode and you are responsible for the specific laptop you borrowed.
Borrowing iPads
On the York campus, you can borrow an iPad from the Library Information Desk in Fountains Learning Centre. They cannot be reserved in advance. Student iPads can be borrowed for a maximum of 1 week and cannot be renewed.
Borrowing Cables
On the York campus, you can borrow a variety of USB and lightening cables and plugs to charge your devices, these are available from the Library Information Desk in Fountains Learning Centre. They cannot be reserved in advance and can be borrowed for 24 hours.
