If you are an apprentice and are made redundant during your apprenticeship, York St John University is here to support you.
As soon as you are notified of redundancy, either you or your employer must inform the University. Communication is key to minimising disruption to your learning and ensuring compliance with funding agency requirements.
For apprentices: contact your Work Based Learning Tutor (WBLT). If they are out of office, then please raise a case through the Student Hub's online portal so that someone can help you.
For employers: contact the Business Development team (BDT) or email apprenticeships@yorksj.ac.uk.
Once the WBLT or BDT receives written notification, they will send you a redundancy form to complete.
When reviewing the form, WBLTs will assess:
off-the-job (OTJ) learning to date
apprentice progress (in percentage), and
time remaining until your Practical Period End date (in months).
This helps determine which of the following scenarios applies:
Scenario A: Completed 75%+ of learning or within 6 months of Practical Period End.
Scenario B: Completed less than 75% of learning and more than 6 months to Practical Period End.
A tailored plan will be made for you depending on which case you fall into.
When faced with a restructure or redundancy, we would also encourage you to make use of our Careers team and Wellbeing team. You can raise a case to those teams through the Student Hub online portal.
