Finding accommodation as a postgraduate student
Our accommodation is primarily for students in their first year of undergraduate study and as such, we do not have any dedicated postgraduate accommodation.- We would recommend that postgraduate students look for accommodation in the private sector.
Postgraduate students starting their course in September
Our accommodation is usually full at the start of the academic year but if postgraduate students are struggling to find accommodation in the private sector, they can submit a case through the Student Hub online portal and ask our team for advice and to check if there is limited room availability in our halls of residence sites.
Postgraduate International students starting their course in September
If York St John University can offer you accommodation up to June/July, please be aware that there is a VISA stipulation that that you need to remain in the UK for the full duration of your course. As such, you will need to find private accommodation for the remainder of your course. Some private student halls of residence sites will have tenancies that run from September to September, so they may be worth considering as a viable option. We have a list of private halls of residence sites on our house hunting help page -
Postgraduate students starting their course in January/February
We do sometimes have accommodation available at this time as we may have vacant rooms through undergraduates leaving their accommodation early.- You are welcome to contact us to check availability by submitting a case through the Student Hub online portal.
Please be aware that our accommodation tenancy lengths are based on the undergraduate calendar and will terminate in June/July.- We cannot extend these tenancies so you will need to seek accommodation in the private sector for the remainder of your course.
