How to get help with issues with private landlords and rentals.
If you are having issues with a landlord/letting agency or private halls of residence provider then we would recommend that alongside any telephone/face to face communication, you also email them which will document the date you raised these concerns. This will ensure there is a record of you contacting the landlord and will provide a timeline you can reference if this does become an issue you wish to report.
A good source of information on the legal rights of tenants can be found on the Citizens Advice webpage. This website also signposts tenants to official complaints procedures if the landlord/letting agency have not acted in accordance with legal stipulations:

If you would like to speak to someone from Citizen-s Advice then please see their contact details here:

The City of York Council also provides information on tenant rights and responsibilities with links to their complaint procedure on their website:

If the landlord/letting agency is registered with the Property Ombudsmen then you can contact them about a complaint here:
The Accommodation Team cannot assist directly with legal disputes but if the complaint means you are released from your tenancy, we can check room availability in our halls of residence if required. Please submit a case through the Student Hub online portal to ask for further assistance.
